Lafcadio Hearn had a wonderful storytelling voice, a way of explaining the culture of Japan to young readers that helps easily clarify differences in Japanese and Western societies. The stories are great fun. I wasn't as impressed with the illustrations by Yuka Green - very simple line drawings in a faux-Japanese style - but for reading outloud to children this book is perfect.
