The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper - I want to reread it around midwinter sometime - and Tales of the Otori because that's one series I feel I don't remember clearly enough for the prequel and sequel to have the effect they could. 3. Untamed by P.C. & Kristin Cast That's good to hear FicusFan. I did try to read Across the Nightingale Floor when it first came out, but it didn't grab me back then. I think I might do better this time. There is also Across the Nightingale Floor, which is the first in a series. #150 - I read the whole Otori series in publication order (Across the Nightingale Floor was printed first) and I think the prequel (Heaven's Net is Wide) actually works best as the final book in the series. But whatever order you read them in hope you're enjoying them!

Anita ... read (and really enjoyed) are Cloud of Sparrows along with its sequel Autumn Bridge by Takashi Matsuoka and the Otori books by Lian Hearn. They all have at least a touch of a fantasy element about them and if you don't mind that then I would recommend these titles. ...

I would give this book 4 stars and will probably read the next in the series. However, I have read some of the reviews on librarything.com and many say the other books are not as ... ... However, I don't think I'll use it for the bookclub at the school where I teach---teen girls.

You might consider looking at Lian Hearn's Across the Nightingale Floor and the follow-ups. It's set in a world heavily inspired by feudal Japan and I haven't seen the recommendation pop up yet. (Granted, it's been ages since I read them so ... Yesterday's mail brought two from BookMooch: The Limbreth Gate by Megan Lindholm, (aka Robin Hobb), and Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn. My SantaThing got me great books (Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn and His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik) which I devoured already. This morning I started Lian Hearn’s Across the Nightingale Floor & am really liking it so far, its so smooth & easy to read… ... Read-Alike shelf on display. A lot of what we came up with was on there. One of the more unexpected selections though was Across the Nightengale Floor by Lian Hearn. I've read it and it's pretty good. Similar to HP in that it's a boy who has hidden powers that he never knew about until ... No ornithology books here!
