Ten reasons to stay by Sabrina Jeffries (C) - Eliza is on the run from her drunken uncle, who is forcing her to marry against her will, and is caught in the stable by Colin, the new earl of Monteith, when she tries to "borrow" his horse. Colin doesn't believe Eliza's hard-luck story, so he holds her at his house until she tells him the truth. Thought she was a bit of a tart personally but there you go.

After Midnight by Liz Carlyle (DNF) - Another wanton young madam. Martinique arrives at her relative's estate quickly becomes sexually involved with the handsome neighbouring lord with a sketchy past. Stopped reading very quickly - just could not get enthused about this silly girl.

The Merchant's Gift by Julia London (B) - A really sweet story that presents Grace Holcomb, daughter of a wealthy tradesman who expects her to marry into a title and move up in society. When the story opens this is what Grace wants also - then she meets the handsome and provocative mill owner Barrett, her childhood playmate, and starts to question her long-held beliefs.

Mischief's Holidays by Renee Bernard (B) - Is a very good story as well, with an adorable accident-prone heroine called Alyssa. No matter how hard she tries her all too frequent mishaps get her into trouble make her wish she could be invisible. However her father's business friend, Leland Yates, is overwhelmed by the urge to protect her. ( )
