Thank you for the suggestion. Kwaidan seems to be the most well known; which others do you think would be a good place to start? ah you read such interesting books. Adding Kwaidan and The Memoirs of Catherine the Great to my wishlist ... try again later and I hope next time the translations will have more respect for the content than for the form.
80. Kwaidan by Lafcadio Hearn
I already knew or have read almost all of these stories before, but I enjoyed them anyway. He's just a good story-teller.

81. Fantastic Mr. ... ... was also quite the Orientalist in his day, and his translation (recreation, actually) of some great Japanese ghost stories, Kwaidan is a classic and would hopefully be included should Hearn get the nod.
I second including Schlesinger's fine historical writing, especially on the New Deal era.
... ... a pretty good one--it's a ghost story. Outlet has ghosts in it, but is maybe more weird than horror. You could also try Kwaidan, which is a collection of creepy Asian stories. I've not read anything by him, but Edogawa Rampo is also supposed to be good.
I seem to be one of the only ... ... Wendigo or has been possessed by the Wendogo spirit is a recognized form of insanity in the forested Canadian North.
Strange Things by Margaret Atwood
Given a choice between a morning spent in a doughnut shop and a little cannibalism, which would you take - to read about, that is? ... ... are some good titles of Asian fantasy:
The Book and the Sword by Louis Cha
The Eleventh Son by Long Gu
Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things by Lafcadio Hearn
Dragon Sword and Wind Child by Noriko Ogiwara
Prince of Ayodhya by Ashok Banker

21. Across the Nightengale Floor~ Lian Hearn

I don't know if I'll make 50 books this year, but I'm enjoying ... ... oben

twacorbies in Asian Fiction & Non-Fiction : What Are You Reading Or Have Just Finished. (sty 18, 2007, 3:38pm) ... of some of Pu Song-Ling's stories. Eager to find more books in this vein, perhaps jumping over to Japan to check out Kwaidan or In Ghostly Japan. The thought that there are nearly 500 stories by Pu Song-Ling and that every edition I've found is merely a selection bums me out. The Pengu ... Yes, Ben, Kwaidan (which you have too) is well worth reading, as well as Hearn's Japanese Tales.
Methinks I will try to get more of his books.....
:-))
