O mnieI'm a librarian at a small state university and a member of two book clubs, one remotely (the other members are 2000+ miles away, where I used to live). I use LibraryThing to track the books I've read, starting in January 2007, plus there are some books included from the book club I've belonged to since autumn 2001.

Noticed you liked The Glass Castle, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family (and also a bit dark). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hi riofriotex,

My name is Dawn and I am a librarian and the host of Toronto Public Library’s online book club: Book Buzz and a fellow LibraryThing member.

This month we are reading The Time Traveler’s Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger I noticed that you include The Time Traveler’s Wife in your library and that you gave it a 5-star review. I’d just like to invite you to visit us and share your thoughts about Niffenegger’s book. It’s a friendly easy-going book club with over 800 members and we are always looking for new points of view.

We will also be hosting a chat with the author. You can interact live, online with Audrey Niffenegger on Book Buzz:
Monday, December 15, 2008. 7-8 pm (Toronto time)

If you are interested, visit us at http://bookbuzz.torontopubliclibrary.ca .

Thank-you for your time,
Dawn

Thanks so much for your message. I hope that you will get a chance to read "A Thousand Veils." If you do, please let me know when you have completed it, and I will send you a copy of the discussion points.

Hi, Your welcome. We don't get enough feedback, good or bad, from our reviews here (or anywhere else, I imagine). Regarding my library, thanks for the compliment, but the variety of my library is not by intention! :D Just chance. Books seem to find a way of getting dumped at our house from relatives and friends...er, and book stores.

Nice graduation gift! "Goodbye to a River" is one of my absolute favorite books. I've been looking for books on the same kind of themes - vaguely naturalist/historical and pondering.
Hi, I came across your review of The Glass Castle and thought it was really well done. So, I looked some of your other reviews here, and they are fantastic. Each one has really good information, even books with low star ratings have good quality reviews. Anyway, just writing to let you know I enjoyed them. Cheers,d
WOW, thanks for both the tip on the window and also specifically, the link to One Minute Book Reviews, a site I was unfamiliar with but that looks very interesting and worth going back to when it's not 2:30 a.m. - ER
Free membership does not make a difference. At the moment, the only extra thing that paid membership gives you is the ability to add more books. Other than that, you have as much freedom as everyone.

The instructions below are for Firefox, but I don't think that Internet Explorer differs at all.

Step 1: Visit www.maploco.com; choose you display style (using the drop-down list); choose your dot style (using the drop-down lists); press the 'Create it!' button.

Step 2: You now see a set of three boxes with HTML code below the 'Create it!' button. The information you need is in the top box labeled 'Copy & Paste this code into your profile or site!'. Highlight the entire contents of the box. (You will need to scroll down a little.) Copy this using one of [ctrl]-[c]; right-click - Copy; or Edit>Copy from the menu.

Step 3: Return to your Profile page. You can now adjust how your page is configured by clicking on 'Edit profile/account settings' at the top right. The code that you've copied can now be pasted into the 'About my library' box. ([ctrl]-[v]; right-click - paste; or Edit>Paste from the menu.) If you want, you can get rid of the <br> bits and replace them with carriage returns.

Step 4: Once all your other display options are chosen, press the 'Save changes' button at the bottom of the screen. Et voila!

Hope that helps. If you still have problems, get back to me.
