O mnieI drink coffee and smoke fags. To obtain money for books and beer I teach and research (actually, the research doesn't pay). I live with a tripedal cat (pictured), and a variable number of bipeds.

O mojej biblioteceThese are more or less all the books I own that aren't in boxes or otherwise difficult to get at. The vast majority were obtained serendipitously from charity shops and market stalls. It's an accidental accumulation, not really a collection; though as a map of my mental space it's probably a pretty accurate indicator. That's worrying...

The remaining books, to be added eventually, are mainly genre paperbacks. I doubt that I'll add my e-books as I don't really consider them to be books.

While assigning covers to books I discovered how incredibly anal I can be. All covers are those of the edition I own. I ought to thank the wonderful people who uploaded the 3,000 or so that I've been able to find and add to the site. Many of these were booksellers and ebay merchants, of course, but especial thanks here to trashfiction, Vault of Evil (not just for the horror covers), and to dealer G. D. Price.

I have a problem on how to tag a number of books on my list and maybe I can use some help. If you read my other post on erotica in South Africa you will see that books were banned on a regular basis because of a few erotic passages. These were sometimes available for a few days from one or two booksellers before they were removed from the shelf. I am honest enough to list these and see that mostly there are fewer than 2 or 3 readers. They were hardly literature but merely pulp (mostly) American and English novels (sic) published in mass for an audience that wanted a bit of titillation. I am new here (10 days only) and have started tagging but am at a loss what to call these. As no one has them on their list I cannot get any idea of what tag to use. If you look at my list you may have a suitable suggestion.
We also used to have a tripedal cat!

I like your collection of punk music books! While I am not so anal with choosing the correct covers for my books, I'm pretty discriminating when it comes to organising my music and album covers, ha ha.

What do you teach/research?
What a lovely cat - is he a doubtful guest?
Is your last name Marx by any chance?
Glad you still liked it - I read it a lifetime ago, and still enjoy dipping back into it from time to time when I need a blast of counterculture sentiment.
I was so pleased to read that I'm not the only one who knows their Library Thing entry for a book is not correct if it doesn't have the right cover, one that's almost right is just not good enough. It has now got so bad that I'm considering purchasing a scanner so that I can add my missing covers! Does this mean I'm anal as well?
Keep up the good work.
Best wishes
Barbara
Oh I so agree about covers! For me, it is a simple matter of "that's the cover of the book I own, or remember reading" so I get quite annoyed about having the "wrong one". If I own a book I will scan its cover and upload it if necessary, but I get frustrated if I don't have the book and cannot find the right cover.

Having the "wrong cover" just doesn't seem right, somehow.
You've read Dry Hustle! I'mnot the only one!
"While assigning covers to books I discovered how incredibly anal I can be. All covers are those of the edition I own."

Not at all anal! I did exactly the same, then when I look at my library in "cover mode", it's like looking at my own bookshelves (past and present). I thought everyone did this? (Oh god, please don't tell me I'm anal...)
Hi, I just joined this site. I'm a relationship expert and I'm getting ready to a column on love advice & relationships. Anyway, just thought I would connect.

Hi,

Was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Saw you liked Paris Trout, and I thought you might like my novel since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hi Marxones
I just added a slew of books and see we now share quite a few. I note that, like me, you prefer LT book covers to match the actual volume. All mine have covers scanned and as these are UK versions they might be of use to you
Nice to meet you. Don't worry about the delay in replying...some people hardly ever come here, and some friend requests I've sent are never answered. Nice to know you have my old terror Australis anthology. I'm hoping that my weird poetry collection Spores from Sharnoth and Other Madnesses will be reprinted in the UK soon - Rainfall books are looking at doing an edition. The placement of your material next Cornish horror is good for me - my ancestors hail from Cornwall...

Cheers
Leigh
Most impressive! How many do you reckon there are to go? Can't noticing that some of the people above you in the ranking are cheating, though size isn't everything of course... Anyway, thanks for the groovy party, have fun in the States and see you in a few weeks!
You should be cleaning, or packing, or something! Stop geeking away on Librarything. I'm going home now - been here since 10. So much for a day of recuperation!
You've hidden your books even from your friends! What have you got to hide matey?
