O mnieI am a novelist living in San Antonio, Texas, though, for the record, I am not from Texas. I just live here. I have five novels: The latest, to be published on September 30th, is called The Whiskey Rebels. It's set in New York, Philadelphia and Western Pennsylvania during the early 1790s, and it is essentially a thriller in which I try to show how unstable and precarious the future of the United States looked in its earliest years. The book is full of plots, deception and heavy drinking, and it is populated with a nice assortment of schemers, true believers and general smart-asses

On to the previous booksK A Conspiracy of Paper (which won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel) and A Spectacle of Corruption were both national bestsellers. They are set in 18th century London and feature Benjamin Weaver, a Jewish former pugilist, thief-taker for hire. Weaver will be back in 2009 with The Devil’s Company, but he’s featured in a new short story, The Double Dealer” in the anthology Thriller , edited by James Patterson. The Coffee Trader is set in 17th century Amsterdam. It was also a national bestseller, and is a book group favorite. My most recent novel, The Ethical Assassin , is a contemporary animal ights thriller about door-to-door encyclopedia salesmen.

O mojej biblioteceI will only post books I like. I don't believe knocking down other writers in public.

Phenomenal works. I love the time periods, the characters, and the prose. You have become one of my favorite authors and I thoroughly look forward to every release. Thank you for your efforts and time.
Sir: I have read ...Conspiracy... and ...Whiskey and have just today ordered ...Spectacle....Look forward to ...Spectacle....I shall try to read all your novels by year's end. Great, fascinating, captivating writing!
A few years ago I read and enjoyed your book The Coffee Trader. It was passed on to me by a friend who had also thought it very good.
Thanks for that.

Hello-

We are wrapping up our read of The Coffee Trader here on LibraryThing, and have had some great discussions and participation on our group read.

If you have a moment, perhaps you'd like to stop by and say hello or just to see how we read through your book as our members are from all over the world in different time zones, reading at different speeds.

I'm quite pleased with the wonderful group members we had and their enthusiasm for this great book you have written.

Thank you for reading -

I have The Coffee Trader in audio and loved it, so I picked up A Conspiracy of Paper. I'm in the middle of it right now. I am going to go after the book The Whiskey Rebels next. I have recently read a non-fiction book on that subject...and there are a few moonshiners in our family's history. I look forward to picking The Whiskey Rebels up.

May I say thank you for taking the time to sit down and write these books for us?

Hello David,

You asked me to let you know when we post your book to our Book Group.

http://www.librarything.com/groups/thehi...

We had 35 members for our last Group Read so I am expecting more for your book.

We are all looking forward to it and we hope you will drop by from time to time.

Mr. Liss, I just ran across your name on the zeitgeist page, and thought I'd leave a comment to let you know how much I loved A Conspiracy of Paper and The Coffee Trader. (Haven't gotten around to The Whiskey Rebels yet, but it's on the short list.)

- Ron
Hi David, thank you for participating in Author chat. I have enjoyed reading your comments.

I thought perhaps you would like some review of the Kindle from one who has one. I love it. I recently took it with me for a two week visit in France. I enjoyed using it on the airplanes and in the evenings when I read in bed. I found it to be way easier than the half a dozen books I feel compelled to pack for trips. It also made it possible for me to buy and bring books home.

I find the variable font feature to be very useful for situations where the lighting is not perfect and for times when I am tired.

I also use it to skim through the New York Times.

I am looking forward to checking out your novels. Keep up the great research.
Hello David,

Thank you for your comments on your books - I quite like the idea of the other book you mentioned - The Coffee Treader! However, I think I will probably go with The Coffee Trader for the Book Group, but look forward to reading your other books as well.

Hello David,

A fellow member, reichardderus by name, recently reviewed your book: The Whiskey Rebels.
As I was searching for a book for The Highly-Rated Book Group here on LibraryThing, I was impressed with Richard’s high opinion of your skills as a novelist.

See review here: http://www.librarything.com/profile_revi...

I am considering either A Conspiracy of Paper or The Coffee Trader for our Group read starting in January 2009. You mentioned in your Profile that The Coffee Trader is a Book Group favourite. Why is that do you think? Which one do you recommend?

We currently have 29 members in our group and we are planning to read: A Pirate of Exquisite Mind starting on Nov 3rd.

See link here: http://www.librarything.com/groups/apira...

We previously read: The Poisonwood Bible.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Wow, David, thanks so much! I wasn't on the early reviewer bandwagon, unfortunately, so I'll have to wait for the book to reach me by the usual means. I do hope you'll get to New York for a reading at some point. -Joseph
I also got The Whiskey Rebels through the ER program, and I'm about halfway through it. It's an excellent read so far, and I'm glad you picked this time in history to write about. I'm looking forward to your next book already, and I wouldn't mind if you wrote a sequel to The Coffee Trader :)
I received your book The Whiskey Rebels as a part of the ER program. I just wanted to say that I thought it was a great book. While reading it I kept telling my husband what was going on and now I am about to hand it over to him so he may read it too. I have had A Conspiracy of Paper in my library for a while now and still have not read it.. I think it's time for me to pull it off my bookshelf and delve into that as well.

Keep up the good writing:)
Count me as another who enjoyed your book. I also posted my review on my blog and Chapters.ca. It was really entertaining (not Chapters, your book!). I referred to it as a 'western' in my review, but now I'm not sure that's right since it takes place in the east...but I think it does have that western flavor.
I got totally lost in the Whiskey Rebels, it was wonderful. I'd love to see what you'd do with JP Morgan (et al..), Teddy Roosevelt and the Miners strike in NE Pennsylvania at the turn of the 20th century! Just a suggestion...
Just finished The Whiskey Rebels and its a home run! I really, really liked it. By far the best ER book I've gotten. Looking forward to what you are conjuring up next.
I truly loved The Whiskey Rebels and really look forward to reading your other novels. Thanks for giving me a solid week of great entertainment, I look forward to many more!
I am so excited about reading other books of yours. It has been a long time since I found a new writer so enthralling. Please keep writing, your books are imformative about history and a blessing. Thank you-Melissa
My pleasure. I've been eagerly awaiting this book since it first appeared on your website.
