You Did it for me: Friendship and Kindness autorstwa Robert Hug (Tate Publishing)

Oferowana przez rhug (autor): I have updated this from 50 to now 100 copies to give away! I will sign and inscribe each one for you with my second favorite verse, "Do not withhold good from those that deserve it when it is within your power to act!" . (Bonus points if you know where it is in the Bible without using a search engine!) Feel free to keep, share or (re)gift the book as you choose. I am looking for honest reviews and help getting the word out about this book. (Both here and Amazon if you'd like)

To reduce postage, I would like to keep these copies within the U.S. but am willing to entertain sending them around the world if I can find a way to do it without too much expense. Thankfully its size fits nicely in an envelope that only needs one stamp in the U.S.

"You did it for me: Friendship and Kindness" is available on Amazon.com and several other websites. It is also available upon request at most major book stores. (If not that's your que to say, "Hey where's this book" really loud!)

Thank you for your support! I'm hoping to get some more visibility for this book and to learn what you like/don't like about the book, the idea, the verse etc. It would be really cool to hear stories on how Kindness has changed your life either by giving or receiving it.

Thanks again!
-Rob

Opis: "You did it for me: Friendship and Kindness" is a young children’s book written by me, Rob Hug and published by Tate Publishing. This little book leads by example showing how noticing the needs of others and responding to those needs with kindness can make the world a much better place!

"How do we show love? You Did It for me: Friendship and Kindness teaches us that love is shown by what we do for other people. Rob Hug teaches young readers that true love is shown by fulfilling other's needs, just as Christ did for us."

The hero in the book (Which I hope your child will identify as him or herself!) notices when others are in pain and makes things better by showing them simple kindnesses. In the end of the book, the hero is in need of kindness and his new friends return to help him out. Basically this is a simple book about the simple virtue of kindness which is free to give, but always of great value!

At the reader’s choice, the book can remain a statement on the virtue of kindness, but for those that chose to dive a bit deeper, this book is also a play on Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:31-40, with each set of pages mirroring one stanza of this bible verse. For instance where the verse says “When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat” this book mirrors that by having one set of pages showing a hungry child and “I forgot my lunch and I’m so hungry!” to the next set of pages showing our hero responding to that need by sharing his food! “You did it for me: Friendship and Kindness” can also be great way to introduce this verse to your child or as a teaching aid in your classroom.

I targeted this book at children entering school but I’ve been told by parents that its often the favorite book of their toddler as well, being requested over and over at bedtime. It was wonderful to be able to see this idea become a published book, I hope you enjoy it too!

"This is a great message told with simple language and clear meaning. The length of the book is perfect. I love the inclusion of Scripture at the end. Also, the price is great" - Christian Children's Book Review

Stunt Road autorstwa Gregory Mose (Gregory Mose)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Oferowana przez gregorymose (autor): I am the author of this book, and I'm looking to my fellow LibraryThing members to help get the word out to a wider audience. I understand why readers are often hesitant to spend money on a book not backed by a major publisher. So here's your chance to try it for free in Kindle, Epub, PDF, RTF, LRF, Palm Doc or Plain Text formats (via Smashwords).

Opis: It seems too good to be true. When Pete McFadden invents his own system of fortune-telling, he doesn't really expect anyone to take it seriously. He can't imagine that it will become Hollywood's next spiritual fad. And he certainly never dreams that "Horokinetics" could make him famous. But it does. And when his creation becomes the battleground between a manipulative cult leader and an unscrupulous corporation, Pete learns a simple truth. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Stunt Road is an intelligent, cynical and above all entertaining foray into the murky world of for-profit spirituality. If you've ever raised an eyebrow at self-improvement schemes, corporate marketing mania or the general gullibility of your fellow men, then this book is a treat. And if you haven't, then it is a must-read.

Cross-posted reviews on LibraryThing and Amazon appreciated. Readers are welcomed to join the book's discussion forum at http://www.shift-of-ages.com/forum.

Opis: Many people in the ancient world saw human life as deeply connected with the great cycles of nature: the rising and setting of the sun, the changing of the seasons, the death and rebirth of vegetation. In the same way that other patterns in nature repeat at regular intervals, they believed that human history also goes through cycles in which significant events repeat, and are likely to happen again in the future at predictable times.

A penetrating study into the history of astrology, ancient religion, secret societies and the evolution of consciousness, 2012 and the Shift of Ages: A Guide to the End of the World is sure to be an invaluable resource in navigating a time of difficult transitions.

Please only apply if you are planning on reading and reviewing it, as I have only had 3 reviews from the 15 copies I've given away so far :)

Opis: We've heard it all before - bored urbanite quits rat race for life of travel and adventure.

Or have we?

Thanks to superhuman naivety and a crippling lack of preparation, Adonis' story is an improbable barrage of comical escapades. Set against a shifting backdrop, ranging from ancient lost cities to strip clubs, his travels fling him from the terror of near death experiences to moments of life-affirming joy.

Tales of guns, drugs, deadly animals, destructive forces of nature and cheerful muggings might make Adonis sound like one of those insane adrenaline junkies, but, incredibly, this is a true story about a normal person. This could be your story.

The Ghost Mirror autorstwa Jamieson Wolf (eTreasures Publishing)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

I'm the author of The Ghost Mirror. It's a dark tale that should satisfy those who love dark fantasy or dark fairy tales. I'd love to hear what you think of it!

Opis: “You have more Power than you know how to use...”

~

With these words, Mave Mallory’s life changes forever.

~

After being neglected by her parents for most of her life, Mave goes to live with her eccentric grandmother: Mona Mallory. An inquisitive child with red hair and black eyes, Mave knows that her Grandmother is a Witch. Mave has always known that she is special too; she can talk to Ghosts.

In her Grandmother’s attic, Mave finds an old Mirror. It’s large and had a gold rim around it. Mave tells her Grandmother about the mirror. Mona, frightened, warns Mave three times: “Please, promise me Mave, do not touch that mirror.” But one night, Mave must break her promise.

It is the whispering that wakes her. Mave wakes to find a blue mist has enveloped the house. The mist is coming from the mirror. Mave watches in terror as one of the Ghosts she has befriended, a girl no older than her, is pulled into the mirror by white, bony hands. Mave steps through the mirror to save her, only to find herself in a place she knows, but doesn’t.

She finds herself in a world where magic is known. Where Magic is shared on the streets. Children practice spells on the street corners and you can buy spells at a corner store. There are cobble stone streets of an older time, though the villagers live in fear. During the day they hide from The Shadows. And during the night it there is strange music, it’s sound humming through the air around her.

People in the town fear her, for she is a child with the black eyes of a Witch.

Unknown to Mave, something hunts her. Older than time, Mr. Lavender knows that Mave has arrived. She is the brightest soul that he has felt in one thousand years and the magic pulsing underneath her skin calls to him. He knows that the Last Witch has come, and that he must taste it.

Now Mave must fight for her life on an unknown terrain using Magic she doesn’t understand. Coming to her aid are a few trinkets. One of them a gold locket with a hole through the middle. It shows her what is underneath the magic. What a thing really is.

What she sees through the locket frightens her. Befriended by Euwan Opal, one of the town’s children, she sees that he is not living at all, just a mass of bones, a walking skeleton. Mave fears that Euwan has a dark secret that he is not sharing, despite his coming to her aid. She wonders what that dark secret is.

Mr. Lavender is a hoarder and eater of souls. Nestled inside the Ghost Mirror, a young girl named Cleo and her new companion Amanda watch as a sinister plot unfolds. A Crow is made to find Mave. Cleo and Amanda know that Mave is their only hope to free them from the Ghost Mirror. They hope that the Crow never finds her. But in the end, it is a friend that betrays her.

When Mave is finally put face to face with Mr. Lavender, Mave must lean to use her magic to fight something darker than fear itself. She must learn to reach into her soul, if she has any hope of freeing the souls trapped in the Silver Glass.

And herself.

Achieve Anything In Just One Year: Be Inspired Daily to Live Your Dreams and Accomplish Your Goals autorstwa Jason Harvey (Amazing Life Press)

Oferowana przez jasonharvey (autor): I am the author of this book.

This is a new book and I am looking to get some honest and insightful reviews.

So if you enjoy books in the self improvement/personal development genre then please request a copy.

Opis: This is a self improvement, motivational and personal development book that is designed to be read on a daily basis. One page a day for one year. Each page starts with an inspirational quote, followed by a discussion of that day's topic, and ends with a task or an assignment for the reader to follow.
Achieve Anything in Just One Year equips readers with the tools to:

  • Be truly committed. Don’t just go through the motions - act like you’re making a promise to your company, or to your best friend.

  • Be specific. A resolution like "I want to lose weight" is easier to ignore than "I want to lose five pounds by March."

  • Set a deadline. A timeframe equals commitment and helps quantify success.

  • Avoid overwhelming yourself. You may want to lose weight, quit smoking, achieve moderation with martinis and cut up your credit cards all at once, but let’s get real. Focus on a limited set of goals and plan on taking stock mid-year.

  • Change one thing at a time. Recognize that change is hard. Wait to achieve one goal before starting on the next.

  • Be realistic. Taking charge of a fitness regimen is a realistic goal, while exercising seven days a week may not be. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment with lofty goals.

The idea is to take daily action that creates a ripple effect in your life.

By transforming your life with small steps, you can stay motivated, focused and balanced. Best of all, you will feel happier about pursuing your personal success.

Independence autorstwa Kate Kasserman (Center 61)

Oferowana przez katekasserman (autor): I'm the author of Independence, and I'm trying to gain a few readers and word-of-mouth through this giveaway (particularly because the book is, for the next few weeks, available largely only in theory from Amazon US due to the printer's slowness -- while the UK side is already up and running!). If anyone is inclined to cross-post their reviews on Amazon, I'd be very much grateful and obliged; and I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on LibraryThing!

Update: while I really can't ship stuff farther than the US, I admittedly feel guilty about excluding other countries; when this giveaway ends, I'll post another one for an ebook that I can send anywhere! Oh, and the Stateside distribution looks like it's fixed now, so Independence is properly available both in the UK and the US.

Opis: An orphaned girl in revolutionary America tries to hide her damning past and save the rebel officer she secretly loves.

Violence destroyed Rachel’s first home on the colonial South Carolina frontier, when the Cherokee razed her father’s farm and killed her family. Revenge took her second home, when white settlers slaughtered the Cherokee who had adopted Rachel into their tribe. And war snatched her third home, when revolution drove away the household where seventeen-year-old Rachel worked as a maid, and the family left her behind.

Determined to make her way in the world on her own, Rachel seeks her opportunity in the chaos of the fighting. She falls in love with a rigid, idealistic rebel officer who shows her a passing kindness and finds a position with a rich benefactress who has ties to both sides of the revolution. But the rebel officer remains unaware of Rachel’s attachment, and Rachel’s situation hangs precariously on the whims of a demanding mistress.

When her beloved Lieutenant Bellew is captured by the redcoats, Rachel tries to use intelligence from her employer’s English connections to save him. But she stumbles across dark secrets about both sides of the conflict, secrets that endanger not only her security and position but her life – as well as the fate of a nation, and an empire.

Uncertain Paradise: 1973 [part one] autorstwa John W. Cassell (Inkwater Press)

Oferowana przez johnwcassell (autor): Winners will receive their books through amazon.com for faster service. No review is requested...just read and enjoy.
****************
Part One of Cassell's novel of nation-building and international intrigue is again being offered to give the many who signed up for it the first time another opportunity. Cassell became fascinated with the process of nation-building during the eleven years he worked for a Third World government on a remote tropical island. Working with an indigenous journalist on the island, he began a serious study of the process, spending hundreds of hours interviewing members of the traditional island society as well as its modern political leaders, later combining his impressions with a politico-military adventure story to produce this two-part novel. This fictional account of the birth and development of the Isle of St. Margaret's offers absorbing entertainment combined with a look at a process ongoing throughout the earth's final frontiers.

Opis: Uncertain Paradise: 1973—-part one by John W. Cassell (2007)—the protagonist and his girlfriend, on the run from the FBI and the DiStefano Organized Crime Family arrive on the Isle of St. Margaret's as it begins its last three months as a British Colony before independence. His female companion is shortly kidnaped as the protagonist is impressed into the island's military, fighting a desperate battle against Marxist guerillas. As the tensions and dangers of his new society mount up, the protagonist shortly finds himself in a situation perhaps more deadly than the one from which he fled. Based on the author's eleven years experience on a tropical island working for a Third World government, this is a story of nation-building and politico-military intrigue.

Excerpts are readily available on the amazon.com product page's "look inside" section as well as the google book partner site for this volume.

Crossroads: 1969 autorstwa John W. Cassell (Inkwater Press)

Oferowana przez johnwcassell (autor): Crossroads: 1969 is offered by author John W. Cassell as a way to further make this true story of the Sixties available to those either interested in nostalgia or learning about a time that is rarely presented with candor.

The book has no mission...no agenda...it just shows the times through one young man's journey through the year 1969.

No review is requested. Just enjoy!

Opis: The one that started it all.... Crossroads: 1969 was the first feature length book authored by John W. Cassell. He began writing it shortly after discharge from the service in 1976.

Written from diaries, letters and other original sources, the book was the author's response to a desire to preserve forever his experiences on the road as a member of the Counterculture in 1969...what led to that decision, and the lessons learned along the many miles of his journey.

He would later write "factional" accounts of both 1970 and 1971...but this...the beginning of the adventure...is a true story [some identities are masked but that's all].

This is the way it was. There are no stereotypes here... no attempts to justify. All the embarrassments of things done, things left undone, and opinions held and modified are here.

Crossroads: 1969 was recognized in 2008 by the Arts on the Underground Foundation in London and is currently having selected chapters translated into French as part of a university contemporary literature project. It continues to inform and entertain new readers as it is slowly discovered by more and more people.

Along with Odyssey: 1970 and Hell's Quest: 1971, it is part of a trilogy that accurately and truly presents those exciting and turbulent times in America. It joins Jack Engelhard's Days of the Bitter End in telling the truth about a time already shrouded in falsehood and agenda.

Excerpts from the book are available at the url provided as well as amazon.com's product page and the common knowledge section maintained by its author here at Librarything.

Stephanie Barko, Literary Publicist

Opis: As Tom Daniels waits to be seen at the nearest VA hospital in 2006, he flashes back to his two years of service during the Vietnam years.

Although he does not support the War in 1968, a “Newsweek” article convinces him that his chances for staying out of combat are good, so he volunteers to be drafted. Just after his first year anniversary in the Army, Tom is ordered to Vietnam, but his Colonel gets his transfer cancelled to keep Tom working as a programmer on base. Tom’s best friend deploys instead. Five months later, after Tom is married, he has a nightmare in which his buddy is wounded in combat. Tom realizes how guilty he feels about his friend shipping out.

Suddenly the reverie is over and it’s 2006 again. Tom sees a lone veteran in a wheelchair next to the far wall in the waiting room of the VA Hospital. The vet looks a lot like his long lost buddy.

Oferowana przez klaidlaw: I received this as part of the Member's Give Away and want to pass it along for somebody else to read.

Prints of Samuel Chamberlain, N.A. autorstwa Narcissa Chamberlain (Boston Public Library)

Oferowana przez hopetillman: This book was received as a door prize. While it is a beautiful book, it does not belong in my collection. I am looking for a good home with someone who will appreciate this work. It is in excellent condition.

The book begins with a chronology of the artist's life and a series of critical essays, including three by Samuel Chamberlain, examining etching, lithography and drypoint as artistic means to the interpretation of architecture.

Waiting on a Train: The Embattled Future of Passenger Rail Service autorstwa James McCommons (Chelsea Green)

Oferowana przez PhoenixTerran: An uncorrected proof that I received as part of the Green Books Campaign. An advanced copy in excellent condition that I hope someone else will have the chance to enjoy, too.

Opis: From cover: During the tumultuous year of 2008—when gas prices reached $4 a gallon, Amtrak set ridership records, and a commuter train collided with a freight train in California—journalist James McCommons spent a year on America's trains, talking to the people who ride and work the rails throughout much of the Amtrak system. Organized around these rail journeys, Waiting on a Train is both travel narrative and investigative journalism

Readers meet historians, railroad executives, transportation officials, politicians, government regulators, railroad lobbyists, and passenger-rail advocates and hear answers to the simple question: Why has the greatest railroad nation in the world turned its back on the very form of transportation that made modern life and mobility possible?

Distrust of railroads in the nineteenth century, overregulation in the twentieth, and heavy government subsidies for airports and roads have left the country with a skeletal intercity passenger-rail system. While riding the rails, McCommons explores what role government should play in creating and funding mass-transportation system. Against the backdrop of the nation's stimulus program, he explores what it will take to build high-speed trains and transportation networks that make sense for America's present and future.
